Historical information

The photograph was taken at an annual Ithacan Philanthropic Society picnic. The races, organised for all age groups, were very popular and the men's race was the feature of the day. The first placegetters of the men's race is being congratulated by the president, Andreas Papadopoulos; the second and third placegetters are looking on.

Significance

The annual picnic was and still is a popular event with members of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society. It is a chance for friends and families to relax and catch up.
