Clothing - Pith Helmet

Historical information

Pith helmets were widely used during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, especially by European colonial forces, explorers, and military personnel in tropical climates. They were also worn by Australian and British soldiers during early military campaigns. Given its worn condition, this helmet may have been used in a military, police, or civilian context, possibly for outdoor labour or travel in hot climates.

Physical description

The item is a light brown or khaki-coloured pith helmet with a wide, circular brim and a rounded, dome-shaped crown. The helmet appears to be well-worn, showing signs of discoloration, staining, and dirt accumulation. A small hole is present at the top of the crown.
