Plaque - Tooan State School Plaque

Historical information

This plaque commemorates the official opening of the Tooan Primary School building on December 5, 1969, by Mr. H. S. Hobbs, who was the District Inspector of Schools at the time. Such plaques were commonly placed on school buildings to mark significant events in the institution’s history. Given that Tooan is a rural area, the school likely served local farming communities before its closure, as many small rural schools were shut down or amalgamated over the years.

Physical description

The item is a rectangular metal plaque with embossed lettering. It is mounted on a slightly larger backing board with a light-coloured border, likely for protection or display purposes. The plaque has four mounting holes, one at each corner, which would have been used for securing it to a wall or structure. The surface of the plaque shows signs of wear, including some discoloration and minor scratches.
