INTERFET (International Force East Timor) brassard worn by all service personnel from all participating nations in Timor between October 1999 and February 2000, prior to the United Nations resuming control. INTERFET was commanded by an Australian, Major General Peter Cosgrove and approximately 7000 Australian service personnel were deployed.

Significance

The International Force East Timor (INTERFET) was a multinational non-United Nations peacemaking taskforce, organised and led by Australia in accordance with United Nations resolutions to address the humanitarian and security crisis that took place in East Timor from 1999–2000 until the arrival of UN peacekeepers.
