J Blight's quarry is located on Mt Alexander. It was opened up by Blight, a Cornish born quarryman turned gold-miner, in 1862. The quarries supplied Harcourt granite to monumental yards and building sites all over Australia.
Significance
The photo depicts the average workforce of the Harcourt granite quarry as well as the methods of transportation of the heavy blocks of stone.
