A certificate presented as an anniversary gift to Melbourne Legacy, recognising 50 years as commemorated on a postage stamp.
Australia Post issued this postage stamp in 1973, on the 50th anniversary of the founding of Melbourne Legacy, September 1923. The stamp was produced in recognition of the outstanding work that Legacy has done in helping war widows and their families.
The design of children playing within the silhouette of a hand, was done by George Hamori, an Australian graphic design artist (born 1918).
Significance
The stamp was a reminder to all the people of Australia of the helping hand of kindness of Legacy, and the generosity of the people of Australia who have donated to fund the work that Legacy does.
Physical description
Pink and blue cardboard certificate with four 7c stamps affixed in top left corner. Each stamp bears an image of 8 children playing football over a ghosted hand. The image of the chilren also appears in a larger format in the central region of the card.
