Footwear - Pair of Red Leather Slingbacks, J W Jane, late 1970s

Historical information

The extensive fashion and design collection of the Kew Historical Society has been assembled over a number of decades. One subsection of this collection is shoes, designed and manufactured for Australian women by Australian and European designers. Many of the shoes, while often mass-produced, were generally constructed by skilled artisans using traditional shoe-making techniques. This pair of shoes was created by Jane Webster of Sydney, which began manufacturing shoes in the 1960s

Physical description

A pair of slingback shoes by Jane, styled in red leather. The mid vamp opening paired with the delicate buckle-fastened ankle strap reflects the shift toward lighter, transitional heels popular in the late 1970s.
