Historical information
The photo taken in 1926 on board ship is of family members welcoming their maternal grandmother and great grandmother, Theodora Lekatsas (Lucas) on her arrival from Ithaca Greece. Theodora was the mother of Giannoula Varvarigos, Nick Lucas, Tom Lucas, Joyia Sikiotis and Ekaterini Athanitis.
Significance
It was common for family members to be able to board ships to greet family on the arrival or farewell them prior to the departure. Up until the 1950s very few Ithacans departed travelled back to Greece.
