Gough Whitlam was Prime Minister (ALP) from 1972 to 1975. The Whitlam government had aspirations within a social justice and equality agenda.
The government was dismissed in 1975 by the governor general - this act was unprecedented. An election followed soon after wherein the government was defeated by the Liberal Party.
