Clothing - Quilted Satin Infant's Cape, 19th century

Historical information

Originally designated as part of a wedding ensemble, the item has since been identified as a baby's cape.

Significance

The item has always been identified as part of the Coombs Collection which was donated to KHS by Mabel Isola Grattan in 1961. Mrs Grattan (nee Younger) was a descendant of the pioneering Coombs family of Studley Park. The item is well provenanced and representative of the period.

Physical description

Cream coloured woollen baby’s cape with extensive use of same-coloured satin quilting of the same colour.
