Over the past 5 years this event has attracted great interest as a news item in each host state for documentary, youth & family programmes as well, not only because of the visual impact of the large number of brass & Concert bands gather for the event, but also in light of the following:
- The historical roots of community beginnings of band in the U. K., where they were once an important part of the working man's entertainment, and the fact that today they contain & produce many of Australia's top musicians
- Band contesting gives a competitive side to music along similar lines to sporting competitions, as well as just a fun element of participating.
- Interest in bands is flourishing worldwide, & Australia is part of this with its own unique style of contesting. If "Banding" were to reach the proportions it has over the years in the U/K/, U.S.A., & Europe, up to 1,000 bands, consisting of an average of 30 people per band, would be participating.
- "Banding" contributes to the welfare of youth. Many communities throughout Australia have brass or concert bands that encourage a great many young people to take up "banding" as a part time interest. This also arises from the massive increase in School bands.
