Burwood School children undertook reading in various ways, such as Braille, and using aids such as additional lighting and a reading platform. In this example, a boy reads Braille whilst a girl is assisted by a teacher to read from her book. In the background are three posters displaying the wildflowers, environment and another aspect of Australian studies.
To encourage the development of audio books, a series of awards were established by the National Library of Australia in 1988, and sponsored by TDK from 1991 until their demise in 2000. Open to both commercial and non-commercial publishers, it aimed to recognise the quality achievements by individuals and publishing houses and to promote the inclusion of audio books into the mainstream market. In 1995 the winner of the Unabridged Fiction Category was "Dark Places" by Louis Braille Books.

"Dear Friends, At your request, I'd like this recording of my voice, so that when I am no longer with you in person, the tones you are now hearing may remind you that love and remembrance are more a matter of the spirit than of the bodily contact and presence. This wish has been amply fulfilled. First, in a joyous fashion after the manner of the young, and later in an atmosphere of hope and serenity which I trust may remain with me 'til the end. Achievement was another aim with me from the beginning, and whatever effects my life attainment may have upon others, there has been a fair amount of personal satisfaction in my victories over circumstance." Thus begins Tilly Aston's recording 'With Love to My Niece", going on to read her poem 'Song of Old Age'. This recording was converted from a 78 acetate record and was originally recorded on 15th July 1937.

Vision Australia Enterprises was the division that provided employment opportunities and training for people who are blind or have low vision. It continued the initial approach that began with the formation of the first workshop in 1867. In these images, packaging items for external vendors, office skills and woodwork are shown. In 2009, the Prahran building was sold, and a new centre opened at Kensington.

On September 18, 2008, Vision Australia staff and volunteers presented an information session to the students at Canterbury Primary School. Children were given kits with masks and braille to learn, and received presentations about how blind and visually impaired children use various services at Vision Australia.

Based upon the story of 'The Three Little Pigs', children were invited to hear the story and see (and knock down) the house made of straw, the house made of wood and the house made of bricks, before heading back for snacks. As part of the day, a petting zoo with barnyard animals also allowed the opportunity to investigate other animals.

On June 13, 2008 former Premier of Victoria John Cain and his wife Nancye visited the Kooyong office of Vision Australia. After viewing demonstrations of a magnifier, screen reader and Daisy book, Mr Cain spoke to a group of VA staff and clients as well as fellow members from the PLVN (Public Libraries of Victoria Network). He later recorded an interview for VA Radio.
