Historical information
Captain Kenneth Aubrey Mickle D.S.O., of St Kilda, served with the Royal Garrison Artillery of the British Army during World War I and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) for his leadership and gallantry. He died on 30 July 1919 at the age of 33 after a long illness and is buried at Brighton Cemetery. The reference on the back of the photograph to 'my brother' was made by Kenneth's brother and author Alan Mickle. Alan Mickle also donated material about Kenneth's career and life to the National Library.
