Historical information

In early 1900, three Emmett brothers, with support from George Mason, set about following up a report of gold in the area. Confirmation of gold led to a gold rush in June 1900. Traffic from Ararat and Willaura passed Mason's Farm and it was on Mason's land that the first settlement, Ladysmith, sprang up.
