Arthur John Faram was a Real Estate Agent and Auctioneer in South Melbourne. He was married to Caroline Crook Faram and they had children Jack, Herbert, George, Louisa, Dick, Frank, Tom and Alice. Arthur died in 1914. Sons Tom, Dick and George established the Faram Bros ironmongery (hardware) store in Bay St which continued until 2007.

The Marshall Manufacturing Company was established in Port Melbourne in 1888. It employed some 300 workers. By 1900 it was the largest shoe & boot manufacturer in Australia producing 12,000 pieces of footwear weekly. A fire in1901 gutted the building and the company moved to Richmond.

The Swallow and Ariell's, Port Melbourne factory was set up by Thomas SWALLOW in 1854 and produced cakes, biscuits and puddings until it closed in the late 1980's.
Large yellow painted Swallow & Ariell biscuit tin with flowers & leaves in a semi circle on the front.
This tin is not sold with the contents thereof but remains the property of Swallow & Ariell Port Melbourne.

The original letter was dictated to and typed up by Stan PAGE's daughter in which he describes growing up in Port Melbourne in the 1920's. Although he was a good reader, Stan found it hard to write as he had left school aged 12. The information was retyped & stored with the original document.

A special Migrant Education building was erected at Nott Street Primary School in the mid 1970's to cater for migrant children living in Port Melbourne. The collection includes Victorian Education Department publications as well as a book 'Learning English in Australia Teacher's Book Part 2" which were used by the donor at the school.
