Historical information

Irwin Walter Brinton was born in Southampton England in 1834, he and wife Ann (Cook) emigrated to Port Phillip arriving in Dec 1857. Irwin was a carpenter and joiner by trade and in the early 1860's operated from premises in Rouse Street, by the mid 1870's he was a Furniture Dealer with premises at 227-231 Bay Street (nw cnr Bridge St). By 1880 his business had expanded to include property sales and auctioneering which he undertook from these premises up till his retirement in c 1888. Irwin passed away in 1897 and was living then at 151 Bridge Street.
