Poster created 13th December 1878 by the Government of New South Wales, offering a reward of £4000 for information leading to the capture of Edward Kelly, Daniel Kelly, Stephen Hart and Joseph Bryne. The men were charged with the murder of police in the King River District. The poster notes that the previous reward of £2500 offered on 13 December 1878 has been cancelled, and replaced with this increased reward money.

Significance

The poster identities numerous Bushrangers who were being charged by the State Police Department in the late 19th Century. The large reward indicates the strong need and desire for information by the Police Department. The members of the Kelly Gang were hiding out in the Beechworth area.
