Interior view of the Beechworth Courthouse. The Beechworth Courthouse was the location of more than 40 trials and hearings for the Kelly Gang and their sympathisers, and was the site of Ned Kelly's committal hearing after his arrest at Glenrowan in 1880.
Significance
The Beechworth Courthouse was built in 1858 and has been in continuous service for 131 years, retaining its original furniture and fittings. The Beechworth Historic Courthouse is one of Beechworth's most visited attractions. The courthouse was the location of more than 40 trails and hearings of the Kelly Gang and their sympathisers between 1878 and 1880.
