The Notice of the Meeting of the Port Melbourne City Council was for the purpose of celebrating the Centenary of the Incorporation of the Borough of Sandridge. this name was changed to the Borough of Port Melbourne in 1884,and to the Town of Port Melbourne in January 1983. In May 1919 the City of Port Melbourne was Gazetted & remained as such until Amalgamation in 1994 . Mayor, Councillor Lesley Stanley Turner ,was in the chair and the meeting attended by His excellency the Lieut-Governor of Victoria, Lieut-General The Hon Sir Edmund Herring.

The SS Nairana was launched 1915 by William Denny & Brothers in Dumbarton Scotland the 3,402 ton steamer was requisitioned by the Royal Navy and served during WW1. In 1922 she was transferred to Tasmanian Steamers and, apart from again being requisitioned for war service in WW2, was used as a Bass Strait ferry until 1948. The Nairana was blown ashore onto Port Melbourne beach during a severe gale on 19 February 1951. After salvage what remained of the wreck was blown up in 1954.

In the 1920's West Beach Swimming Club was located at the corner of Beacon Road & the Boulevard in Garden City. The main hall was a men only facility with the women using in the smaller building at the rear. Situated next to the hall is the Commonwealth Oil Refinery storage tank.

Repairs to the Port Melbourne Town Hall clock tower were undertaken c.1950. One member of Council staff stands on top of the pediment while the other 5 are on the temporary scaffolding. The Port Melbourne Town Hall was completed in 1883 from a design by J. J. Wild. It was the home of the Port Melbourne Council until Amalgamation in 1993.

Jack PORRITT was born in 1917 in the dwelling over his father's shop, 'Porritt for Boots" at 243 - 245 Bay Street Port Melbourne. As well as memories from his life lived in Port Melbourne, Jack's recollections include businesses, churches, Freemasons, hotels, schools and banks.
