Newspaper cutting from The Courier, Ballarat, Saturday 27/1/1996 written by Ian Haberfield calling the community to unite on the tram issue, as they had done in Bendigo in 1972 commented by Vern Robson, Chief Commissioner City of Ballarat. Notes the involvement of the Bendigo community at the time, when he was acting Town Clerk for the City of Bendigo. He said they had to be a ground swell of support for the trams to get up in Ballarat.

A brass metal plate sign with stenciled lettering and border lines etched and painted black. A small hole has been drilled in each of the corners to enable fixing to the tram car. The reverse has remnants of glue and timber fragments from past adhesion.

An enamel sign with black lettering and border line on an off white background. The enameling is stained due to rust. The sign reads "To stop Car pull left hand cord ONCE". Where the enamel has been chipped, an attempt to disguise the damage has been made with paint. The reverse has been enameled in a mixture of black and white, but this shows signs of chipping and rust damage. Two holes have been drilled in the centre of the LH and RH edges to enable the sign to be attached to the tram car. The reverse shows signs that the enamel has been marked prior to firing as the sign rested on a framework which removed the enamel surface, allowing lines of rust to form.

The writing appears to have been stenciled over the white enamel base. The enameling has broken away from areas near the two screw holes formed to attach the sign to the compartment. An attempt has been made to address damage with paint. Enamel on reverse is marked where the sign appears to have been laying on a frame prior to firing.

Relaying tram tracks at the eastern end of Aphrasia St., Newtown, looking east. The location is immediately west of the Pleasant St. intersection, soon after Aphrasia St. was extended from Pleasant St. to Pakington St. so that the three sharp curves for trams into Retreat Road, Pleasant St. and then Aphrasia St. were reduced to one, from Pakington into Aphrasia St. May 1914. Note that sleepers are being used 8in the construction. All the original tracks were laid as a "stringer" construction, as seen in items 9271 and 9214, with tie bars and continuous concrete about 50cm wide under each rail. The overhead is being worked on in two ways; safely with the horse drawn tower wagon, or less so by ladder.

The Photograph shows Ballarat tram No. 14 with the destination of Lydiard St North most likely in Albert St Sebastopol during the 1930s or 1940s. The tram was in the livery shown from August 1936 until Dec. 1950. A motor car is travelling on the adjacent side of the open door, which indicates possibly at the north end of Albert St, just before the tram turned into Skipton St. On the right side is a building advertising Robur Tea.

On closure of the Ballarat tramways, this car was donated to the Lake Goldsmith Steam Preservation Society and returned to Ballarat in 1983 on loan to the Ballarat Tramway Museum.
