Part 1 - Covers the early history of power supply in Ballarat, power supply development in Ballarat and district with reference to the SEC, the routes, construction, opening, tramcars (wrongly based on conversion of horse trams to electric trams), trams ex Sydney, has photos of Sydney tramcars , measurements of Ballarat No. 15 by Wal Jack, the two summer cars, lighting, braking, use of trailers, supply of stores from the power station, the spur line to the Power house, the Sebastopol trams, the waiting shelter and its removal, the fare box system, route colours, the staff system, the water tram, the ESCo bus, wages and working conditions, and 1922 strike.

Significance

Has a strong association with a Ballarat Tramway and its electric tram history as compiled by Wal Jack. Note error in relation to some of the original ESCo trams thought to be converted from horse trams at the time. Part 1.
