Historical information
Photo by Keith Caldwell on 16/3/1963 of Tram 35 at the Grenville St stop on the south side of Sturt St. Tram has the destination of Special and a Dancing at Civic Hall dash panel advert. In the background is the Shelter, Dickens, Gear Chemist, Spot Cafe, L Lescott tea rooms and Maypole. Parked is a bus with Avoca, Leeton, Waubra, Learmonth and Ballarat written on the side. Advice from the BCSV 16/10/2026 the bus belonged to Clive Trounson and Mervyn Charles Squires of Avoca. They were brothers and apparently Mervyn drove the bus. It's a 1948 Ansair bodied Bedford OB that was new to ANA and sold to Squires in 1952 and re-registered XJ 566. It ran in service until 1972 when Squires ceased running the route and sold it for a caravan to someone in Learmonth. Attached is a Keith King's photo of the bus.
