Historical information

The "Original Quintus" (Regimental No: TF005) was a Sumatran tiger who served as the mascot for the 5th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (5 RAR). He was enlisted on 12 May 1967,, the same day 5 RAR returned to Sydney from South Vietnam aboard HMAS Sydney.
Handler: Lance Corporal George Wills was his handler and met him at Garden Island on that date.
Service & Rank: He served as a mascot, eventually rising to the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 (WO2) in recognition of his role in increasing the world's population of tigers. He retired in 1985 and passed away in 1988 at Taronga Park Zoo.
This mascot tradition was continued by subsequent tigers, including Quintus Secundus (served until 1999) and Quintus Septimus Sabre (served until 2010).
