This item was donated by Leading Aircraftman John Stuart Kirby (A317933) who was with the Royal Australian Air Force and served in Vietnam with No 9 Squadron from September 1971 to December 1971 and No. 1 Operational Support Unit from December 1971 to February 1972.

Physical description

Hand carved and lacquered wood shield. There is an American and Australian flag with a helicopter above each flag.
There is a map of Vietnam with the Vietnamese flag. The insignia of the Shield of Mekons is near the left bottom and the insignia of 9 Squadron is near the bottom right,
