2Lt Ian George Mathers, (2794496) served with the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery and was in Vietnam with 4th Field Regiment from December 1970 to March 1971 and 12th Field Regiment from March 1971 and June 1971 and was killed in action on June 7, 1971, during the Battle of Long Khahn in Long Khanh Province, Vietnam. He died instantly from a gunshot to the chest while serving as a Forward Observer for B Company, 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.
