When Special Forces Sergeant Geoge E. Smith went to Vietnam in early 1963, he thought it was to save the "democratic" Diem regime from the Chinese Communists. Set down in a sugar plantation owned by Diem's sister-in-law Madame Nhu, he grew frustrated and synical. then guerrilla regulars overran his camp in a perfectly executed night attack. He was a prisoner of the Vietcong.
