Significance

Moorabbin Airport was acquired in 1946 by a group of aviators and the Civil Aviation Department, Moorabbin Airport opened as a fully-functioning aerodrome in December 1949, chosen for its ideal location in the Market Gardens for an aviation base to be situated southeast of Melbourne.

Physical description

Black and white photograph of the control tower at Moorabbin Airport. At the base of the tower is a single storey brick building with a wire fence at the running across the front.
