Trams crashing into pedestrians at highest rate for 5 years, up from 35 in 2014 to 51 in 2018 according to Transport Safety Victoria annual safety report. Mobile phones and headphones considered to be major distraction for pedestrians. More than 70% of crashes caused by cars turning or merging onto tram tracks.



15% increase in number of times trams crashed into cars or trucks with 1122 incidents reported. Total number of people falling has nearly doubled from 180 in 2014 to 380 in 2018.
