An ivory coloured large linen bedspread with a border finished at 12cm with .4cm drawn threadwork. There is embroidery in a floral pattern to a depth of 62cm in the corners and Initials in the centre, CL?. Two pillow shams 100x79cm with matching embroidery in cream thread and a border finished at 5cm with drawn threadwork accompany the bedspread. The embroidery on the shams also contains the initials CL?

A lightweight wooden baton 51 centimetres long, it's 51 centimetres long, one and a half centimetres diameter at one end tapering to half a centimetre at the other. The thicker end has a metal cap and a one centimetre wide leather strip wound around it for ten centimetres of the baton. The top of the leather is secured with a nail and the other end has a metal ring aroundit.

Seven slides were included in an album that was prepared for Dr Edith Summerskill who visited Australia in 1944 as part of an Empire Parliamentary Delegation. The album included photographs of Australian women working at the factory during WW2. A copy of the album is in the Collection of the Australian War Memorial.

A tapered wooden baton that is 38 centimetres long. Its three centimetres diameter at the top and two centimetres diameter at the 11 centimetre long handle section. The handle has black string wrapped around it and a hole halfway with a broken leather lanyard in it. There is a one and a half centimetre wide metal strip around the end. The top of the baton has a four centimetre long metal cap.The whole baton has a coating of varnish.

A heavy wooden baton 66 centimetres long and three centimetres diameter. There is a hole two centimetres from the top to put a lanyard through. The top seven centimetres is painted red with lettering (roman numeral 3) GR. The next nine centimetres is painted green with a gold and red crown painted on it. The next six centimetre section is yellow with gold lettering, G.P.A. and 1797 underneath. the last 44 centimetres is painted black.

BHS Collection

Box made of cream coloured cardboard for storing lingerie and stockings. It has a rounded shape on each end. The lid is two sections made of half centimetre wide pieces going across the box which are glued to paper and fit into slots in the sides of the box and slides open around the end of the box to go underneath. There is a small gold coloured plastic handle on each lid. Inside the box is a sticker with gold coloured printing of a bird, Nightingale NYLONS, and a made in Australia boomerang logo.

The Picturesque Atlas of Australasia was released in 42 supplements between 1886 and 1889 and attracted over 50,000 subscribers. Produced by the Picturesque Atlas Publishing Company in Wynyard Square, Sydney. The company was established in 1885. Edited by Andrew Garran. Thirty-three parts. Volume 9 to Volume 42. Volumes1 - 8 and 28 are missing. Light tan coloured covers have a printed central rectangular double border. The title and publication information and illustrations are printed inside the border. The illustrations included are Captain Cook, a sailing ship and a sprig of wattle. The pages include many black and white illustrations.

In about 1888 William George Ashman (1871-11/2/1944) began a tailoring business in High Street, Eaglehawk. In 1890 he admitted his brother Arthur Thomas Ashman to the business and they traded as Ashman Brothers. In 1936 the company of Ashman and sons was registered at 265 Hargreaves Street. They specialised in made to measure, hand tailored suits. William married Clara Hunkin (1871-25/11/1944) in 1894. Their sons, John, Eric, Basil and Charles followed into the family business.

Woolen fabric trousers, part of Dress Suit. A decorative strip runs down each leg. The waistband can be adjusted on either side by belt/buckle attachments. Trousers fasten with two buttons and there are four buttons at the fly opening at front. There are two deep lined pockets either side and one top pocket at rear on LHS. There is a maker's label stitched to the lining of the Rear pocket which reads "Ashmans, Hargreaves Street, Bendigo 'The Home of Better Suits'". A name written in ink below the maker's label is 'Mr M. Suurpaa, 28-3-1961 7252." Leather strips have been sewn inside edge of each leg cuff for garment protection.

RVB Limited is now called Sirens and Horns and is still manufacturing sirens in Australia.

A hand siren with an L shaped handle two centimetres wide and five centimetres long is attached to the base of a metal cylinder ten centimetres diameter and six centimetres long with the last two centimetres tapering to a six centimetre diameter opening which flares to a 12 centimetre opening in four centimetres. The handle is connected to a thin metal disc which vibrates when the handle is turned making a loud noise. The siren is attached to a wooden handle four centimetres by two centimetres and 21 centimetres long. It is all painted red. A label attached states, "Hand HURRICANE Siren, Made in Australia, Model no. HSI, RVB Limited."

The fly opening at front has 5 buttons. There are two deep cotton side pockets. Writing on lining of RHS pocket reads "Myer 3/40?. There is a back LHS pocket. The trouser lengths appear to have been altered.

Sir John Quick, politician known as the Father of the Federation. James Northcott, musician who received a silver cornet. William and Richard Francis, who founded the Beehive Store. Peter Hoey Finn, who carved the bowl of the Alexandra fountain. Elizabeth Watson, the only woman to have died in a mining accident in 1863.

The Gala opening was held on 8/12/1955 and the Drive-in closed 3/2/1985. It was situated on the Western side of Crook Street and had 1 screen and the capacity for 700 cars. It was run by the Houlihan family.

An extra button inside allows for extension if needed. Three buttons line each cuff. There ae two deep pockets either side of the jacket and one smaller top pocket on the RHS. The shoulders are padded.

The Country Women's Association (CWA) began in Victoria in 1928 with the aim of improving the opportunities for women and children. They are a philanthropic and advocacy group and part of the Associated Country women of the World (ACWW). There are currently over 5000 members and Bendigo has several groups.

8375a: The Victorian soldier settlement scheme created in 1917 to lease farming land to soldiers and nurses returning from WW1. The Scheme was heavily criticised. Some reasons for this were the settlers' lack of capital, the size of the land allocated, and the prices of agricultural products both purchased and sold by the farmers. In the wake of WW2, the soldier settlement scheme was refined and, under the supervision of the Soldier Settlement Commission, was re-established. The Yarraberb Settlement was one of the settlements established in 1948. 8375b: Archibald Edmund "Archie" Robertson was born in Eaglehawk in 1884 to Martin Robertson and Anna Margaretha/Hannah Marguerita (nee. Weseloh/Wesloah). Robertson was a commissioned officer during WW1 and contributed to the welfare and advancement of the California Gully community. Following his death in 1922, following a fall from his bike, the community honoured Robertson with a memorial seat in 1923.
