The photo shows a large crowd with an inset photo of the visit of Lord Brassey, Governor of Victoria 1895 to 1900. The Leader (published by The Age) reported on his visit of 1/8/1896. There is a double deck horse tram in the foreground advertising "Confidence curls tobacco" In the background are shops for Darling Cigars, City Hall Book Depot, Corthoy's Chemist and dentist, Whyke Tailors, Levinson Watchmaker and J T Marsh Hatter and the Town Hall.

Significance

Yields information about the visit of the Governor of Victoria to Ballarat 1896.
