The original wooden bridge at the Toorloo Arm of Lake Tyers burned down in 1936.The historical timeline surrounding the name and events of the site includes:1918: The original timber road bridge was constructed along what was then part of the old highway route to service local forestry, transport, and the nearby Murray's sawmill.1932: The area became a prominent camp for an unemployment relief crew (historically known as a "Susso camp") during the Great Depression. The workers used the old Princes Highway camp at the bridge as their primary base.1936: A bushfire ripped through the area and destroyed the timber structure. The location has been known colloquially as Burnt Bridge ever since.
