Colonel Windridge was in charge of the Native Police in Melbourne in 1840. He was sent by Gov. Latrobe to make a road b/w Melbourne and Port Albert . On 8.3.1946 he named Lake Tyers after CJ Tyers Crown Land Commissioner for Gippsland
