Historical information
Johann Carl Pohl (1824-1/6/1906) came to Bendigo in the 1850's. He was originally a butcher in White Hills but then planted about 12 acres of vines at Emu Creek. He was a very successful winemaker, winning prizes throughout Australia and overseas for his red wines. This certificate is from the 1873 Vienna World's Fair, again for his wine. He also won prizes at the Vienna Fair in 1875.
