Tenders for the building of a Savings Bank building, designed by Messrs Reid and Barnes were called in 1872. The winning tender was for 3,800 pounds by Mr Wright. The building was opened 9th June 1873. Until this time the bank had been operating out of temporary offices at the rear of the Beehive Building.
