Charles La Trobe (1801-18750 was initially the Superintendent of the Port Phillip District (1839). When Victoria became a separate colony in 1851 La Trobe became the first Lieutenant Governor. He resigned in 1852 after having difficulty coping with the rapid increase of Victoria's population and economic growth.
Physical description
