Diggers & Mining. Diggers and Miners. Walhalla grew to such an extent that, with a population of over 4,000 people. It became a borough and the centre of the Shire of Walhalla. After gold mining ceased and the population had dwindled away, the shire was broken up and Walhalla was left with little of its former glory. Markings: 59 994.5 WAL. Used as a teaching aid.
