Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2000. Charing cross: circa 1914. The Alexandra Fountain was built with proceeds from the Bendigo Juvenile Industrial Exhibition in March 1879. The architect was W.C. Vahland. The fountain was officially opened by Prince Albert Edward Victor of Wales in 1881. During the years, Charing Cross has been an important landmark and meeting place for visitors and residents of the town. The clip is in a building.
