Letter, dated 31 March '89, from Mary Bachman to Peter Ellis. She enclosed the music to the Sedgwick Quadrille. It was put together by an old violinist who played at dances in the town hall at Bendigo over seventy years ago. She thought his name was Gusler? He also made violins. She also asked the names of some tunes.

Joseph Anderson Panton migrated to Sydney in 1851 and went to the Port Phillip District. After farming briefly at Mangalore, he tried for gold without success at Mount Alexander. In 1852 Panton was appointed assistant commissioner at Kangaroo Gully, near Bendigo, senior assistant commissioner at Bendigo in 1853 and senior commissioner in 1854.
