Joseph Baron Wilcock was killed in an accident in the Extended Hustlers Freehold Company, June 1873, when the 'sling got off the hook of the windlass rope'... and he was precipitated to the state 165 feet below the surface' Joseph had been sitting on the sling that was hanging from the hook whilst cutting 'hitches for bearers'. (Bendigo Advertiser 25.6.1873). Deceased left a wife, Harriete Anna (Rose) and eight children, Elizabeth 1b 1853, Mariann b 1857, William b 1859, Thomas b 1861, Joseph Frederick b 1864, Charles b 1866, Alfred b 1858 and Emily b 1872.
Joseph was born in Manchester, England. He was the youngest son of Elizabeth Wilson, Yew Tree House, Prestwich, England. He married Hariette Anne Rose on 13th October, 1853 at Eaglehawk Gully, Victoria.
