Constable John Barry was stationed at Bendigo for more than 25 years, where he was highly esteemed. He died at Perth, Western Australia in 1910. He was the author of the 'Victorian Police Guide' a guide to policing that was highly praised by the Judges of the Supreme Court. (Obituary, 17th September, 1910, 'The Advocate, Melbourne)

Certificate of marriage, 22nd May 1867, between John Barry, policeman, Sandhurst and Bridget Agnes Kenevan, servant and spinster of Sandhurst. Birth place of both parties was Ireland. Married in St. Kilian's church by Patrick Cavanagh, priest. Witnesses William Kavanagh and Catherine Fitzpatrick.
