Gillies Pies was started by three brothers from Charlton, in central Victoria, Les, Alan and Norm Gillies who left their farm after the 1940s drought and headed to Bendigo to start anew. From their first small bakery in Mitchell Street, the brothers eventually went on to employ about 200 people with wholesale and retail locations spreading across the state and distribution including Melbourne.
A double-sided sign, both sides are identical. A yellow sign with red writing, GILLES curved above the face of a boy eating a pie. GB. In blue writing, PIES & PASTIES. Baked Fresh Daily. There are three holes on each side for mounting.

John Ellison was working in Geelong for a few years during the war. He did not join his brothers and father in the army as he was rejected on medical grounds. This rejection related to a severe eye problem.

City of Bendigo mayoral acceptance of invitation for Myer manager.
Mayor of Bendigo, Cr. JCM Jeffrey, accepts the invitation of the Management and Directorate of Myer Bendigo to attend a dinner on the 28th January 1970; at the Shamrock Hotel in honour of the occasion of his retirement of Mr. JF Mahoney as Manager of Myer Bendigo. Acceptance on the City of Bendigo letterhead, written 12th January 1970.

John Ellison was at the Ballarat teacher's college in 1947 and was editor of the students' newspaper.
Two copies of the Ballarat college student's newsletter. Volume 2 of the "Standard" from 1947 and a Christmas edition of College chat 1947. The newsletters present many folds and rips. Dirty with rust spots and stains all over. Part of the Aileen and John Ellison collection.

"Marvel Darner & Fancy Worker" cottons belonged to Ivy Kennedy, who was employed at Myer Melbourne in the 1920s. The referenced "Marvel Darner" could not be located. Three card silken lisle mercerised mending threads produced for Myer Emporium Ltd. Melbourne included.

The real photograph is a black and white photo of Lewis Lewis and his family beside a fence looking over the sea with large sea cliffs behind them. One of the photographs is a copy of this photo. Another photocopy is black and white photo of a different group of people in the same location by the sea. The last photocopy is black and white of a small plane with a group of people beside it.
The real photograph has an attachment on the back that says, '1930 - 1940 on tour with Bus owner Booter and Bendigo. His Mother, his grandfather, his wife, Reg Ansett, his Aunty and Lewis Lewis.' The photocopy of the real photograph has black pen written on it that says, 'His mother, his grandfather, wife, Reg Ansett, his Aunty, Lewis Lewis, Garage Boort and Bendigo Bus owner 1920 - 1940. Built Medical Centre he left behind Rosanna.' The last photocopy has blue pen written above the photo saying, 'History Lewis Lewis and Reg Ansett.'

Lewis Lewis built a house and garage in Boort with a Weighing Bridge 1920 - 1940. He owned six buses in Bendigo.

Record of the Victoria versus England Cricket match played at the Queen Elizabeth Oval (QEO) in January 1995. The booklet includes profiles of the English and Victorian players, a summary of the history of English cricket in Bendigo, a picture of the QEO grandstand in 1901-1902, results of England teams who had previously played in Bendigo, local cricketers, scorecards and a map of the QEO. The autograph page has two autographs added. The booklet has 25 pages. There is also a yellow advertising feature page intact, in the middle of the booklet.

Various photographs of Bendigo. There are two Kodak packets; one has of photos along with the negatives, the other has only negatives. There are 29 photos in total with 19 in the packet and 10 in plastic pockets (shown in the attached images). The photos include images of the Bendigo Easter Parade, St Paul's Church, a petrol station in Ellis St, Flora Hill, a house in Quarry Hill, Havlin St East, Mitchell and Hargreaves Streets and a train in the park outside the Bendigo railway Station in the mid 1970s.
