Carl Roeder was a highly respected figure in the Bendigo mining community, serving 27 years as a manager in the region. Roeder was part of a wave of experienced German miners who migrated to the Bendigo goldfields, and settled in the Bendigo area (then Sandhurst) in 1862 .The Victoria Consols Mining Company was one of the major players on the famous Garden Gully line of reef, one of the richest gold-producing areas in the world. Beyond mine management, Roeder served as Chair of the Board of the VC mining company.
The Artist is F. de Kock (Frederic de Kock) and was a known artist and lithographer in Sandhurst during the 1880s and was often commissioned for these high-end, bespoke illuminated addresses.
