R class locomotives were used between 1951 and 1974. R703 began operation in 1951 so R704 would have been an early loco. They were built by the Nth British Locomotive Co., Glasgow. These locos were replaced by diesel engines in 1974 and R704 is on display at the Railway Museum in Williamstown.
