Physical description

Object. Pewter like metal medal with 2mm hole drilled on the top crest. A piece of 8mm orange ribbon is threaded through the hole. Obverse: Engraved around the edge, "To Commemorate the visit of HRH Prince Alfred Duke of Edinburgh KG to Australia''. In the centre of the medal is an engraving of a sailing ship. Below the ship are the words ''HMS GALATEA 1867''. Reverse: A pattern of a trailing vine is engraved around the edge of the medal. In the centre is a head and shoulders profile of Prince Alfred. Around the profile are the words ''HRH DUKE OF EDINBURGH''.
