Bendigo Advertiser "The way we were" from 1999. City hub: the Bendigo Cenotaph, in Charing Cross next to the fountain, is a replica to scale of the famous Cenotaph in Whitehall, London and was the brainchild of Bendigo's own Sir George Lansell. It was unveiled on Sunday, June 2, 1957, by the then Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria, Sir Edmund Herring.
