Bendigo Advertiser "The way we were" from 1999. Education: Gravel Hill State School, circa 1900. The history of the school dates back to 1875. It would appear that the school may have been controlled by the Presbyterian Church with Alexander Cook as head teacher. This school amalgamated with Quarry Hill State School from May 1893 until 1907, before operating as a separate entity once more.
