Dr Nolan came to Australia as ship's doctor on sailing ship "Hope". He practised in Linton between 1879 and around 1877, when he moved to Beaufort. His house, 'Erneville' was on Geelong Road next door to the Robin Hood Hotel (later "Linton Park Hotel").
