Robert Simeon Nelson established a carpentry and cabinet making business in Linton from about 1858. His services included coffin making, and over time the business gradually evolved into "Nelson Bros Undertakers".
R.S. Nelson married Mary Ann Dawe in 1864. They had six children, four of whom survived to adulthood.
