Born in 1901, Reta Murrell (spelled Rita in some records) was a granddaughter of Ambrose and Mary Murrell who ran the Victoria Hotel in Linton. She was the oldest child of William and Lily Murrell of Linton. Reta became a school teacher, and was teaching at Linton State School between 1918 and 1922. Later in her life she became a watercolour painter. Reta married Angus Brewster McLean in 1935, and they had two children - Marigold and Angus. Reta McLean died in 1998.
Two paintings by Reta Murrell are in the LDHS collection.
