Photograph, Timber Stack for Charcoal Burning

Historical information

It is not known where this photograph was taken. James(?) Scarf who lived at Madden's Flat was said to be a charcoal burner (Source - Bill Grigg Snr in interview with Max Standish - typescript in Grigg family file.)

Physical description

Black and white copy of original photograph which shows a more or less circular stack of timber. The stack appears to have been made from the thinner branches of trees. It is understood that the timber may have been stacked in this way prior to being burnt for charcoal, which was the main source of fuel used in blacksmith's forges.
